Geomembrane CQA - Abigail Beck Performs Liner Integrity Survey

CQA Week Profile: Liner Integrity Surveys

0
When CQA professionals gather in Austin, Texas during CQA Week (April 29 - May 3), those who take part in the liner integrity survey/assessment (LISA) training (April 29 - 30) will discover a number of interesting updates to this event. Now in its 9th year of training events, the TRI Environmental CQA Week LISA education will feature rebuilt test pads for the hands-on field training portion of the event. A larger soil-covered test pad is part of the redesign. Further, the event will feature the new 2000 series equipment, a double-dipole arrangement that produces multi-directional 3D voltage mapping. Separate cells for the water lance and water puddle will be included, and new equipment for the water dipole survey will be utilized. Equipment will be available for purchase or project-specific rental. In addition, TRI will be adding a trouble-shooting session in the class, including a bench-scale site to highlight conditions that impair survey sensitivity and give false positive signals. Opportunities in Engineering: the Next CQA Week

0
Geosynthetic barrier materials have become crucial environmental protection materials in waste management, water and wastewater management, mining, industrial processing, and other sectors. Despite the wide usage (including government regulated and required use), the number of qualified professionals who can verify the integrity of geosynthetic barrier installations remains low. Liner integrity survey/assessment (LISA) remains a strong need in the field, and only one place is currently teaching these skills and certifying and auditing the specialists: TRI/Environmental Inc. in Austin, Texas. The next opportunity to learn LISA technology as well as take advantage of two key QA/QC geosynthetics short courses and to test for GSI inspector certification is 14-18 November 2011 during CQA Week.

CQA Week Review: Liner Integrity Surveys Course

0
During the recent CQA Week events at TRI/Environmental's campus in Austin, Texas, two days were given to the T-CLIC geoelectric Liner Integrity Survey and Assessment (LISA) course, which combines both classroom and practical, hands-on field training in on-site test cells. The course saw a very eclectic, enthusiastic, and international group learn about locating leaks in geomembrane lining systems. Participants came from South Africa (2), Portugal, and Peru, as well as North America. Installers, engineers, and construction quality assurance (CQA) firms were represented. In a new development for the course, instructor Ian D. Peggs (I-CORP INTERNATIONAL) was supported by Abigail Beck of Ausenco Vector. Ms. Beck presented segments on development of LISA as a business, liner design considerations, case histories and defects found, and future directions. Rich Lacey (TRI) presented the segment on Electricity 101. Read more.

TRI reports that only a few spots are left for participation in the next CQA Week at the TRI campus in Austin, Texas. During the 6-10 December 2010 CQA Week, the already excellent course lead by Dr. Ian Peggs will include expert education from Ausenco Vector's Abigail Beck. Ms. Beck's 49 million square feet of electrical leak location experience is the perfect complement to Dr. Peggs' 30+ years of Geosynthetic Materials Science & Electrical Leak Location experience. Construction quality assurance (CQA) training at TRI focuses on geomembrane liner integrity surveys, QA/QC of geosynthetics installation (geotextiles, geomembranes, geogrids, etc.), and QA/QC of compacted clay and geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) installation. Optional certification exams are also offered. Download a flyer (PDF)
