GeoAfrica 2017 - IGSUpdate on South African Geosynthetics ActivitiesResponding to requests from the many international delegates who will attend and exhibit at GeoAfrica 2017, the conference committee has announced that payment by credit card is now available in the online registration system.
GeoAfrica 2017 will be held 8 – 11 October 2017 in Marrakech, Morocco. The conference, which is centered on the theme of “Geosynthetics in Sustainable Development in Africa”, is the 3rd African Regional Conference on Geosynthetics, following installments in South Africa (2009) and Ghana (2013). It will be held under the auspices of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) and hosted and organized by the IGS Moroccan Chapter.
The event offers an exceptional opportunity for geosynthetics-related engineering and construction professionals to discuss and get more involved in Africa’s growing infrastructure.

Organizers have been particularly keen to demonstrate how geosynthetics provide solutions to water scarcity, poor availability of suitable soils for various constructions, inadequate infrastructures, and flooding. With that in mind, they note that some of the biggest topics to be addressed in the technical program will include:

  • Geosynthetics in hydraulic structures
  • Geosynthetics in infrastructure projects
  • Geosynthetics in agricultural projects
  • Waste Management
  • Coastal Protection
  • Soil Reinforcement
  • Environmental protection

All sessions will take place at the Mogador Agdal Hotel & Spa in Marrakech.
The location (Marrakech) will draw conference participants from all African countries and heavy participation from other world regions, as Marrakech is strategically accessible through its international airport. Furthermore, the conference and accommodations are all in one place for easy access to sessions and great networking.
