Temporary RECPs - East Coast Erosion ControlThe Erosion Control Technology Council (ECTC) has published revised charts for Temporary Rolled Erosion Control Products (RECPs). The documentation identifies product characteristics, such as material thickness, tensile strength, ground coverage, material mass, and maximum slope steepness in installation.
“These charts are the result of consensus amongst leading manufacturers of RECPs in the industry and is designed to satisfy the needs of engineers, designers and other end-users of these products,” ECTC’s leadership wrote in a brief statement.
The tables, which are available online and as a downloadable PDF, are divided by functional longevity of RECPs:

  • Ultra Short Term (< 3 months)
  • Short Term (12 months)
  • Extended Term (up to 24 months)
  • Long Term (36 months)

TEMPORARY RECPs

From ECTC’s Temporary Rolled Erosion Control Product introduction page:

For applications where natural vegetation alone will provide sufficient permanent erosion protection, a temporary rolled erosion control product may be used. Temporary erosion control products provide necessary longevity and performance properties to effectively control erosion and assist in the establishment of vegetation under the anticipated immediate site conditions.

One form of a temporary RECP is an open weave textile (OWT). OWTs are a degradable product composed of processed natural or polymer yarns woven into a matrix, used to provide erosion control and facilitate vegetation establishment.

Another temporary RECP is an erosion control blanket (ECB), which is a degradable RECP composed of processed natural or polymer fibers mechanically, structurally or chemically bound together to form a continuous matrix to provide erosion control and facilitate vegetation establishment.

ECTC notes that it is at work on updating Turf Reinforcement Mat (TRM) charts.
