Following Trash and Recyclables on Their Journey

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s “Senseable City Laboratory” has embarked on an ambitious trash and recycling tracking program. The experiment has used roughly 3,000 common pieces of garbage from all over the United States. Items have been digitally tagged and MIT’s team has been following the extensive study. Researchers plan to track items for three months to see where they end up in the waste stream. Real-time tracking will be available online.
