Two of the geosynthetics field’s most respected figures, Joel Sprague and Grace Hsuan, were honored on Thursday, June 15, at the ASTM International Committee D35 on Geosynthetics meetings in Toronto.
TRI Environmental‘s Senior Engineer Joel Sprague received the ASTM Award of Merit, a prestigious honor that earns him the title of Fellow.
In a release from ASTM, Committee D35 noted that Sprague was recognized for his work with the committee and the geosynthetics industry in standards development, manufacturing audit protocols, and harmonization of testing standards.
Joel Sprague has been a member of ASTM International for more than 30 years, has previously received the ASTM Award of Appreciation (2000), the GTJ Outstanding Article Award (2003), and the Richard S. Ladd Standards Development Award (2004).
Dr. Grace Hsuan, who is well known for her research at Drexel University and the Geosynthetic Institute (GSI), received the L. David Suits Award, which is given to individuals who distinguish themselves in the geosynthetics field with contributions that result in an advancement of geosynthetic knowledge. These achievements directly benefit the development of standards.
The L. David Suits Award is based solely on merit and not awarded on any specific time schedule.
Dr. Hsuan was presented the award by Dave Suits himself.
