SKZ - Geosynthetics Middle East28 September 2010 – The fast and outstanding development and growth of the United Arab Emirates has shown not just significant recognition among top-tier international companies in the long-term strength of business in the United Arab Emirates but deep commitment and effort by the UAE government in ensuring and providing a competitive infrastructure to support and enable the overall vision of success for the United Arab Emirates. When SKZ convenes the 3rd International Conference on Geosynthetics Middle East, it will do so with the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City as a headline supporter.

Geosynthetics Middle East 2010 will take place 9-10 November 2010 in Abu Dhabi under the theme of "Waterproofing Systems and Reinforced Structures."

Germany-based organization SKZ first brought its renowned "Lifetime of Geosynthetics" seminar to the UAE in 2008. Working with BMC Gulf, the event has transitioned into a much-needed geosynthetics event that fills a void in the region’s professional development opportunities. The patronage of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is a significant achievement, as it will further the reach of the event and geosynthetics into the larger UAE, Gulf and Middle Eastern construction and engineering field.

Geosynthetics Middle East will be held at Le Meridien Hotel and will provide a highly attractive platform for international geotechnical and environmental specialists to exchange their knowledge and experience on geosynthetics-related topics, research and design, construction engineering, case studies and field experiences. The conference will attract industry experts of various backgrounds including engineers, designers, consultants, manufacturers, contractors and government agencies, and will therefore also provide a rich networking environment.

Announced presenters include:

  • Eng. Abdulla S. Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Infrastructure and Municipal Assets, Abu Dhabi Municipality (UAE)
  • Dr. Ian D. Peggs, Consultant for Geosynthetics, I-Corp International Inc. (USA)
  • Dipl.-Ing. Albert Lueghammer, Expert for Thermoplastic Lining Systems and Technical Manager of AGRU Kunststofftechnik GmbH (Austria)
  • Dr. Rami El-Sherbiny, Quality Assurance Specialist for Geosynthetic Lining Systems, Cairo University – Faculty of Engineering(Egypt)
  • Dipl.-Ing. Helmut Zanzinger, Expert for Product Certification, SKZ (Germany)

More speakers and the full program will be announced shortly. Those who register before 14 October 2010 will be entered for a chance to win a ticket for the Formula 1 event “Abu Dhabi Grand Prix,” which takes place 12-14 November 2010 following the conference.

With the support of Abu Dhabi Municipality as Head Sponsor for this event, the Geosynthetics Middle East 2010 will once again contribute to the quality of the construction projects throughout the region, increasing their value and considerably extending their service life.
