For the week of November 28, ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics has announced a number of standards reapprovals and revisions:

D6244, “Standard Test Method for Vertical Compression of Geocomposite Pavement Panel Drains” has been reapproved. The vertical compression test for geocomposite pavement panel drains is intended to simulate vertical, horizontal, and eccentric loading resulting from an applied vertical load.

D6364, “Standard Test Method for Determining Short-Term Compression Behavior of Geosynthetics,” has been reapproved. This test method, which is a one-dimensional test, can be used to evaluate the short-term stress/strain behavior of geosynthetics under compressive stress while loaded at a constant rate of deformation.

D6817, “Standard Specification for Rigid Cellular Polystyrene Geofoam,” has been revised. This specification presents the types, physical properties, and dimensions of rigid cellular polystyrene (RCPS) intended for use as geofoam. The spec does not, however, address the layout, placement, and workmanship for proper installation and performance of geofoam.

D6916, “Standard Test Method for Determining the Shear Strength Between Segmental Concrete Units (Modular Concrete Blocks),” has been reapproved. This test is used to determine the shear strength for the design of the facing stability of segmental retaining walls.

D7001, “Standard Specification for Geocomposites for Pavement Edge Drains and Other High-Flow Applications,” has been reapproved. This specification covers geocomposite drainage panels used in highway, turf, and other high volume subsurface drainage applications.
