GSE Resets Its IPO

International geosynthetics manufacturer GSE has revised its planned initial public offering (IPO) of stock. The company had intended to offer shares in mid-December, but was one of three companies to pullback from an IPO that month in the tepid investment environment. The new IPO terms, just filed, announced a 7 million share offering at an expected $8-10/share price. Roughly $63 million is expected to be raised. This offering will make GSE one of the only geosynthetics companies with publicly traded shares. It will also announce the return of the company to being publicly traded after years of private equity ownership. Learn more here.;

$1.3 Million Fine for Carlsbad

A Carlsbad, New Mexico landfill has received a $1.3 million fine from the New Mexico Environment Department for accepting improper waste. The facility, which attempted to ban NMED staff from inspection, has accepted (and failed to properly cover) asbestos and hazardous waste, in violation of its permit. Learn more here.;

American Securities Completes Significant Investment in Advanced Drainage Systems Inc.

American Securities LLC, a New York-based private equity firm, today announces that it has completed its significant investment in Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. (ADS), the largest producer of corrugated polyethylene pipe products in the world. Based in Hilliard, Ohio, ADS is a 40-year-old, privately-held company serving the storm and waste water industry. Equity for the investment was provided by American Securities Partners V, L.P., a $2.3 billion private equity partnership. Barclays Capital acted as financial advisor to ADS.

Tensar Improves Energy Efficiency

Tensar International recently installed a magnetic fuel treatment system from Maxsys to one of their gas-fired, steam-raising boilers. The project has reported cut gas consumption by 5.78%--a considerable financial savings in the manufacturing process and an admirable environmental benefit. Also, extensive analysis by the Blackburn-United Kingdom facility's chief engineer has found that boiler efficiency has improved by 5.46%. Read more in the release.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Wetlands, Oceans and Watersheds (OWOW) has released its 2010 annual report titled "Sustainable Communities, Healthy Watersheds." The report contains information about EPA's work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the development of new draft guidance on Identifying Waters Protected by the Clean Water Act (also known as the Waters of the U.S. Draft Guidance), progress in better protection of water quality in Appalachia from the harmful effects of surface coal mining operations, and advancement in the work of the National Ocean Council. The report also includes information about OWOW's response to the Deepwater Horizon/BP oil spill, polluted runoff, Chesapeake Bay watershed rules, and much more.

GSE Environmental Announces Acquisition of SynTec, LLC

GSE Holding, Inc. has announced its acquisition of all of the equity interests of SynTec, LLC, a Baltimore, Maryland-based manufacturer of geosynthetics that complement GSE's well-known containment geosynthetics. SynTec has revenues of approximately $20 million. Co-Founders Giovanni Capra and Aigen Zhao, both of whom are veterans of the field, will remain with GSE after the acquisition.
