Golf Gets Synthetic

0
The fifth hole on Cedar Pines, a municipal nine-hole golf course in Andover, Kansas, suffered damage last year that has necessitated redoing the green. Rather than rebuild it in a conventional way, the course has opted to install a synthetic grass system for the 3,000 sq. ft. green. Installation is currently taking place. The sod has been stripped away and the underlying root barrier and separation geotextile is being placed. Next up, a two-part base will be installed before the turf is secured. The system will include four holes in the green (with adjustable plugs) so course managers can vary the play. Learn more here.;

New Iowa Course Gets National Attention

The Preserve on Rathbun Lake, a state park course in Moravia, Iowa, has been selected as the runner-up in the final judging for the "U.S. Courses" category of Golf Inc.'s 2009 Development of the Year Awards. In addition to assisting with repairs to flood-damaged areas on the course, Judd Duininck, a principal in Duininck Golf, noted that the construction team improved the fledgling layout's erosion control. The company's experience working in states like California, Minnesota and others with stringent erosion control standards enabled it to keep the Honey Creek State Park project in compliance with Iowa DNR regulations.
