Buy America Affecting Canada-US Geosynthetics Business

0
Despite politicians north and south of the border pledging to continue talks on Buy America provisions, protectionism is affecting the geosynthetics trade between Canada and the Untied States. Fredericton, New Brunswick's Geomembrane Technologies, which produces many floating covers, for example, has had to break relationships with Canadian firms in order to establish distributors in the United States so that the Buy America law does not remove Geomembrane Technologies from many of its regular customers and markets. GAF Cleanup to Require Large-Scale Containment

0
The former GAF shingle factory steadily expanded on Erie, Pennsylvania's bayfront. As it grew, workers dumped construction debris, asbestos, tar, shingle trimmings and other industrial waste into the water and erected new buildings on the fill. Now, to remediate and redevelop the 12.5-acre site, significant containment will be needed. Two-thirds of the site will most likely require the installation of a two-foot-thick cover layer. SWANA Publishes Peer-Reviewed Report on the Long-Term Environmental Risks of Subtitle D Landfills

0
The Solid Waste Association of North America's (SWANA's) Applied Research Foundation (ARF) has just released a revised report, called "The Long-Term Environmental Risks of Subtitle D Landfills." The report summarizes what is known about the actual long-term environmental risks associated with municipal solid waste landfills and introduces long-term care alternatives that can be used to manage and minimize these risks. SWANA will distribute this report to Federal, State and Provincial regulatory agencies in order to initiate a dialogue on the regulatory changes needed to improve landfill operation during the post-closure period.
