Prof. Robert M. Koerner has come out with the Sixth Edition of Designing With Geosynthetics. As with prior volumes, it comes with helpful test questions after each chapter with answers provided at the end of the book. Currently, Koerner is professor emeritus of Drexel University.

"Deep Foundations: Design, Construction and Quality Control - Load and Resistance Factor Design Platform (LRFD)" will be held 14-16 November 2011 at the University of Delaware Campus. International Symposium on Deep Foundations, Mexico

The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) and the Mexican Society of Soil Mechanics (SMIG) will present an International Symposium on Deep Foundations, 3-4 November 2011 in Mexico City, Mexico. Sessions will focus on current advancements and innovative applications within the following technologies: Micropiles, Slurry Walls, Driven Piles and Drilled Shafts. A keynote lecture on each plus additional case histories will be presented in each half-day session. An exhibition hall will be included for the showcasing of products, equipment and services. Brewster selectmen will spend $117,000 on golf course

Selectmen voted to spend $117,000 to fix several sinkholes at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts. Decaying tree stumps that were buried when the course was built has caused the sinkholes. The course will use a high tech wire mesh (Tensar Geogrid), buried with stone and sand to limit the sinking. An eco-friendly drainage system will be used when it comes time to pave the streets in the new golf course development in Hot Springs, South Dakota, set to begin next year. Infrastructure and Geosynthetics: Short Courses

The Geosynthetic Institute (GSI) has scheduled two infrastructure short courses for users (new and experienced) of geosynthetics. These much-needed educational opportunities couldn't have emerged at a better time. GSI's courses focus on public and private sector use of geosynthetics (with one course being dedicated to each). Each course will be offered twice during the spring. The dates for the one-day sessions are as follows: Infrastructure Development Using Geosynthetics: Public Sector Projects - March 23 and April 13; Infrastructure Development Using Geosynthetics: Private Sector Projects - March 24 and April 14.
